i think that was a riposte, not a dodge.

Not a bug.

Look closely at what it says, 'You learn from your mistakes' -- You failed the dodge check but did succeed on the riposte check.

Dodge is checked first, if dodge isn't successful then riposte is called. Dodge and riposte fail aren't printed because it'd just be too spammy.
