I was just wondering if anyone noticed that pets give you a totally differant experience gain...
For example... (39 H 20 M 2428X): pet k gre The fire asp attacks the large green crab. (39 H 20 M 2428X): k The fire asp hit the large green crab for 14 damage. (39 H 20 M 2428X): gre You slashed the large green crab for 9 damage. (39 H 20 M 2428X): ! Please wait 2 more seconds. The large green crab hit you for 4 damage. (35 H 20 M 2428X): ! You missed. The fire asp hit the large green crab for 15 damage. Dreis's fire asp killed the large green crab. Your fire asp earned you 32 experience for the death of the large green <---32 (bout greens max) crab. You gained 15 experience for the death of the large green crab. <---15 what I earned. The large green crab was carrying: some green crab legs. (35 H 20 M 2381X): ! <---- Look... ive gained 47 experience. Please wait 3 more seconds. (35 H 20 M 2381X): so 32 + 15 is 47 experience gained from battle And trust me this adds up. If you pay attention to some of the larger players battles involving conjure then youll see things like... You blah blah earned you 1343 experience for the death of the blah blah... THEN You gained 711 experience for the death of whatever... Total = 2054 experience gained from battle. Well what if the total exp for the perm/mob was 1500? Why am I or anyone else getting rewarded free experience? If done properly you could get your pet to earn max xp from a mob/perm and then you would do the same... effectively doubling your experience gain for little effort. I dunno maybe it's just me but I just noticed this... Which means that if this is legal then anyone who doesn't play with a pet is missing out on TOUSANDS of free experience. And why wouldn't you want to exploit that? I know for a fact I couldnt earn the same xp for killing the same mob/perm without a pet as someone who did use one. The player with the pet would earn more experience. Mebbie i'm not the only one who noticed this and players are staying quiet for obvious reasons. Or maybe im wrong and this is legal.

Since experience is awarded for the amount of damage done to the mob in proportion to its hit points, it is possible that players with pets get more more exp from mobs.
This is due to the mob ticking in battle. To illustrate my point let me use the following example: Let's assume you're fighting a green crab that has 30 HP. Your pet hits for 15. You hit for 12. The green crab ticks 10 hit points back. Your pet hits for 15 and kills it. Your pet will have earned 28 hit points worth of exp and you will have earned 12 which would give you approximately 30% more exp than the mob is worth in this situation. I mentioned it long ago but it was never fixed completely. The only real problem comes when people used to heal mobs as they fought them with a pet so that they could get 200% exp from every mob. Then again, that method would cause you to fight less mobs overall and tick more from using up mp faster, so its not even really any more efficient. But you're right, it adds up.

If I had the same battle with the same weapons and the same hits (pet included) with a different class. I would have received less experience. This is what i'm getten at.
I don't care if the mob tick at all during battle. There is still a maximum amount of experience receiveable from a mob/perm. With a pet, i have found I can gain MORE then the maximum amount set by dms. In other terms... FREE EXPERIENCE. If anything the experience gained by pets should be capped at a point. If the player continues to make good hits then the experience gained from the pet should be less. IE im killen a perm woth 1000 exp. My pets kicken ass and has earned 750experience thus far. I'm still at 250 experience gained for the battle. But wait! I make a critical hit! Now my pets experience gain for this battle is 675 and IVE gained 325 for myself! NOT MY PET STILL MAKES 750 AND I NOW MAKE 325 EXPERIENCE. That's crazy. Now for the fight ive surpassed the 1000 experience max set by the dms. Like I said, if this is legal and not a bug imma come back strong with pets and let the free exp flow.

Sure, this might be addressed. But a related topic is in a group (and technically you are in a group with a pet) of multiple players. If a mob ticks in battle, the total experience gained by the group will be more than the maximum set by the builder, so called "FREE EXPERIENCE." This is usually not too big of a deal, but I do see people in groups heal mobs, especially slow-spawning but high-xp mobs. That way, everyone in the group, be it 2 or 6 people, gets the maximum. That's a lot more "FREE EXPERIENCE" than you can get from having a pet.
In my experiences with Delta, I get faster experience by continuously killing more mobs, rather than spending a long time fighting one mob. I get pissed off when a mob ticks a lot (especially when they hit 40 damage or more), regardless of this "FREE EXPERIENCE" that my pet gains me. Also, we've already discussed that at higher levels, gold becomes more of an issue than experience. No matter how much you milk a mob for experience, it never drops more gold. True, this is something that can be addressed and possibly fixed, but people will just find another way to exploit things, if they want. I think it's a better use of time to make the major changes that the DMs have in mind, rather than focus on stupid small things that add up to a lot of time and frustration. Just my two cents.

NOTICE: how the two big pet owners are making complaints against my argument.
Also notice delta that in a group i will NOT (flat out) NOT, gain my experience total PLUS the total of my group memeber. I make 1200 in a fight and my group member (not my pet) makes 1000. I still walk away with 1200.... NOT 2200! face it it's a bug and you two have been exploiting it. You've known about it... both of you and both of you have direct contact with a DM. But you both kept silent. Ridiculous.... It really is. So Dom/Bane... eitherfix it or leave it as is... If you leave it as is I'll make a pet char and ruin everyone in terms of exp gain an hour. Mebbie this is why Disaron got so weirded out by Delta's leveling spree? Free experience makes for easy leveling.
Re: Re: About pets Sunday, August 5th, 2007 at 2:38 am So your plea for "ear plugs means nothing... Come on... high drop rates and screaming skulls = more then enough gold to level. Right something that can be addressed is part of being a "watcher" it's what you guys do... Find anything and everything that could tilt the game play in someone else's favor and talk to DMs about it. Being a DM yourself at one point you should know this. And focusing on a small thing as I dunno... dbl the experience for one class as opposed to another is NOTHING SMALL. That is ABSOLUTLEY HUGE!!!! Unbelievably so. I think you knew and ignored telling anyone and now your upset and trying to make it sound better. If I was a DM i'de dust and lock you. For exploiting a bug that is so fucking large. It's a bug and you know it is.

As far as I'm concerned this is one of the benefits of having pets, and is working as intended.

So going solo is best?
Awsome... screw all classes but pet classes. They are all worthless and anyone who thinks a measly critical hit backstab for 200 is awsome should check into pets. Cause exploting anything free is beyond awsome. Seriously... you can't sell this.... Bane in all honesty you run an AWSOME mud here and it is well adorned with... well... everything a mordor mudder would enjoy. But giving out free experience? For every kill? If you make a perm that gives 1500 exp TOTAL... MAX... NO IF AND ORS OR BUTS. Then why endorse a way to surpass that? Doesn't this make player exp gain logic all f'd? It seriously makes all other classes a joke... Why circle... or why cast... or why anything if I can get free experience. The logic don't make sence.... But if I can get a free 1000 exp EVERY BATTLE... then I'm game.
Re: About pets Sunday, August 5th, 2007 at 8:16 pm
Well, then you'd better play human too, for all that FREE experience that they get. Ignore the fact that they have higher training costs. And never play a multiclass, because they get experience penalties. Remember, kids, experience is everything.
Pets have had their fair share of bugs, and if this was really a problem, it would be immediately fixed, instead of being ignored for so many years.
Re: About pets Monday, August 6th, 2007 at 12:43 am
I agree with Cujo here. Is having the pet the benefit, and not being able to get more xp? I have spent probably 100+ hours killing longshoreman over a 6 year period, and we all know how much they tick, so if one ticks full on me, then i kill it, why should I get the same amount of xp when a pet class is going to get 1.5-2 times as much. Doesnt at all seem fair to me. This is just like pet dumb mobs/perms. Why should a perm sit there and not hit while a pet is wailing away at it? Its severely unbalanced.
