Code: Weapon Delay Thursday, May 31st, 2007 at 12:23 pm
Swing speed has been coded for weapons. For example, we can now make a giant boulder that has a 10 second attack delay or make a dagger with a 2 second attack delay. Small weapons in the newbie areas are being made 2 second delay, while ranged weapons are being made 2 attack 4 second delay. For example, the short bow in the Market Square will have a chance to attack twice (it's not guaranteed 2 swings) every 4 seconds.
Note that we are currently limited to whole number delays (1 second, 2 second). If I can work some coding magic, we'll be able to have tenth of a second delays, although the mud will unfortunately still report this as "Please wait 1 more second." or "Please wait 2 more seconds." Here's an example of a 2 second delay dagger - a haste spell reduces your swing speed by 1 second. Highport Market South You are in the southeastern part of Highport's Market. A small tent city of sorts has sprung up here, where bands of travelling gypsies and merchants gather to sell their goods. You can see a plethora of items to be sold. Soothsayers have tents here and there about this place where one can get their fortune told. Most fortunes these days are dark however, what with the rise of evil in the land. It is only a matter of time. Obvious exits: north, west. You see Dominus the Dungeonmaster. You see four fortune tellers, a gypsy, a half-orc, two shoemakers. You see 29 gold coins, a leather whip, two scourges, some studded leather gauntlets. (19 H 2 M): wield dag You wield a dagger. (19 H 2 M): Dominus casts a haste spell on you. The world slows down around you. (19 H 2 M): k orc You attack the half-orc. You missed. (19 H 2 M): k orc Please wait 1 more second. (19 H 2 M): The half-orc hit you for 7 damage. (12 H 2 M): k orc You missed. (12 H 2 M): k orc Please wait 1 more second. (12 H 2 M): k orc You missed. (12 H 2 M): k orc You stabbed the half-orc for 6 damage. (12 H 2 M): k orc Please wait 1 more second. (12 H 2 M): The half-orc hit you for 5 damage. The fortune teller picked up 29 gold coins. (7 H 2 M): k orc You missed. (7 H 2 M): k orc Please wait 1 more second. (7 H 2 M): k orc You missed. (11 H 2 M): k orc Please wait 1 more second. (11 H 2 M): k orc You stabbed the half-orc for 8 damage. (11 H 2 M): k orc Please wait 1 more second. (11 H 2 M): The half-orc missed you. (11 H 2 M): k orc You stabbed the half-orc for 7 damage. (11 H 2 M): k orc Please wait 1 more second. (11 H 2 M): k orc You missed. (11 H 2 M): k orc Please wait 1 more second. (11 H 2 M): k orc You stabbed the half-orc for 6 damage. (11 H 2 M): k orc Please wait 1 more second. (4 H 2 M): k orc Please wait 1 more second. (4 H 2 M): k orc You stabbed the half-orc for 6 damage. You killed the half-orc. You gained 42 experience for the death of the half-orc. The half-orc was carrying: a scourge, some studded leather leggings, 25 gold coins. The 2nd shoemaker picked up 25 gold coins. (4 H 2 M): ![]() ![]()

Flippin' Sweet! Nice job Dom!
Question: Do all current weapons have a default swing speed set on them? Or will just the new items, and items "as you go" be changed to swing speeds? Thanks! -Bodhi "I check the RoH Forum More than you do"
Re: Code: Weapon Delay Thursday, May 31st, 2007 at 12:36 pm
All weapons have a default swing speed of 3 seconds. I'm changing the newbie weapons right now, and hopefully future weapons will contain swing speed and numAttacks; that will depend on the builders. Existing weapons are up for review, if I've got time. ![]() ![]()

It does beg the question: what about dual-wielders, wielding a weapon with one delay, and seconding a weapon with a different delay than the first?

Dual-wielders use the slower of the two weapons. ![]() ![]()

I don't know if this still applies to pole arms, but Dom was fun enough to let me and ebon check out some of the new "weapon approach". Which I gotta say was really cool.

Ok, well, it's not everyday you find a short bow, get it enchanted to +1, and placed in the hands of a lvl 25 paladin. With goodness damage processing on every hit (I'd suggest only the first), strength bonuses included (questionable, depending on the number of hits possible), and pray, the results are interesting. Let's not forget, this is a short bow that I got from the market square.
Wielding: It is a short and stout bow made of wood. The short bow (+1) is a missile weapon. It is in pristine condition. It is weakly enchanted. You killed the peg-legged pirate. get coins hide You gained 84 experience for the death of the peg-legged pirate. The peg-legged pirate was carrying: 60 gold coins. As long as I'm prayed and hitting non-blue things, the damage seems to range from about 10-44. That is actually very reasonable, considering, that I'm attacking 1 second slower, and thus would expect around 33% more damage compared to a 3-second weapon. But, from a short bow?
