Guild Updates
Thursday, April 22nd, 2010 at 1:33 pm
I put a pretty big update for guilds live today.

* When a guildmaster abdicates leadership of the guild, the ownership of the property goes to the new guildmaster. This can happen either via the guild abdicate command or by suicide. During suicide, a bug caused the property to be destroyed (members of Forsaken Rage will recall this when Disaron suicided).
* Guildhall foyers can now hold shops without my intervention. Only the guildmaster may found a shop in the guild foyer. The ownership of this shop will remain with the guild, even if the guildmaster abdicates - read HELP GUILDSHOPS for clarification. If your guildhall is built in Highport, you will need a Highport shop deed to create a shop. Only one shop per foyer.
* You can now build one guildhall per city. Thus, if your guild currently owns a guild hall in Highport, your guildmaster can create another one in Gnomebarrow. Reminder: roleplaying for guildhalls is enforced. If Web of Knives decides to open a guildhall in Sigil, the main room better quickly turn into a front to divert the attention of the inquisitors.
* The guild members command no longer requires you to type out the guild's name precisely. That was annoying.
* Viewing the membership for your guild or typing guild hall / guildhall / gh will inform you where your guildhalls are located (roughly).

Breakwater Point, Drakken Port, and Tradetown can now support player shops and guildhalls.

Guilds on the website have gotten an overhaul. They should now be more friendly to use and guildmasters should have an easier time managing the guild. A lot of the following functionality requires your player to be associated with your forum account.

Improvements:

* If you have your character associated with a forum account when you create a guild, you will automatically get a guild on the website with a forum created for you. If your guild supporters have a forum account, they will get added as members.
* Adding new members to the guild will automatically add their forum accounts to the guild on the website.
* If a guild is disbanded, all members are kicked out of the guild on the website and the guild is deactivated. The forum will become hidden, but will still be available to DMs.

Still coming:

* If all your characters have left the guild, your forum account will be automatically removed from the guild on the website.
* Your title in the guild on the website will be shown next to posts in the guild forum.

Since I busted the forum with this update, I'm shutting down private forums until I have time to fix it.

More guild updates:

Being in a guild or clan can now modify your faction standing. Because clans are part of the game, their faction adjustment is fixed and has been documented in the Book of Clans.

Guilds, however, are player-driven, which means their effects on faction are not set in stone. By default, your guild will not influence faction. These will have to be worked out on a per-guild basis and will have to be roleplaying oriented. So, for example, the Web of Knives guild could get a faction bonus with the Dark Elves of Oakspire, but would probably get a faction hit from Sigil (since we don't have an elven counterpart faction).

Guildmasters: talk to me if you're interested.
