Huh? I proposed that idea on the old Dom board three years before WoW was even released. A class that casted like a lich, but used the hp of a pet. If I'm not mistaken that IS dungeons and dragons based, since warlocks have always been demonic spellcasters like sorcerors, and didn't cast spells as normal, but channeled demonic energy for spell like effects.

As far as pets having additional skills, I don't think WoW is the only game that has had that concept. It was actually more from Baldur's Gate, excellent game, where familiars would sometimes come with spells and skills, such as pseudo dragons casting blur or cat familiars using hide in shadows and pickpocket.

As far as training animals you come across and feeding them cheese and crap to be your friend, I didn't suggest.
