Let me make sure I am getting this right. You want to code in something that will turn any class into a vampire basically?
Yes
Rifrath wrote:
Wtih no recourse?
No; there will definitely be recourse for being a vampire. Vampires need to feed to stay in top condition (details still in planning). If a vampire is hungry, they will probably take across-the-board faction hits with non-vampire factions. Sunlight currently does 1/5 hitpoints in damage every 3-5 seconds, also up for debate/testing (too much damage?).

So if i level my Ranger to 30, then get bitten by a vampire, there is a chance i could turn into a vampire forever?
Yes (forever is being debated, Bane wants it to be removable, at which point you can never be a vampire again).

Anything that there is a reasonable cure for I see no problem with. Maybe I am not getting this right somehow, but it seems like after a while the whole game would just be vampires.
It's possible everyone will want to be a vampire. I'm thinking a few things will deter this; (1) being permanently charmed by the vampire who turned you, (2) you have to be high enough level (currently 10, up for debate) and (3) the penalties vampires face (the biggest being sunlight).

I certainly dont think any irrevocable conditions add to or enhance the game. They definately don't make me want to level, except for maybe a vampire. My gaming experience would be ruined by this addition if I am getting it right.
I don't really understand these comments. Having a permanent condition would ruin your gaming experience, but you'd only want to level a character with a permanent condition? If you can clarify what exactly you don't like about it, we can work on fixing it.
Rifrath wrote:
Or is the first condition something that turns into the second condition if not healed in a timely manner? Please elaborate on this for me.
The first condition (porphyria) is a curse that is easily cured, but turns into the second condition (vampirism) if not cured in a timely fashion.

If you have any recommendations to make, please do! That's why I posted about this before it's being put in and even before it'll be tested; to get feedback.

I don't know if I really like the idea of using an actual name of a disorder for this. Or maybe the name, porphyria, just sounds strange to me. But I don't really have any better suggestions, so I can't say much.
I got the idea from the Elder Scrolls games, which call it Porphyric Hemophilia.
Usagi wrote:
So it starts off as a curse and sets in if you don't cure it? Is that how it works?
Yes; porphyria lasts for 90 minutes real time, and if you don't cure it, it becomes vampirism.

How bad is it if you step into the sunlight?
I originally suggested 3 damage per second. Oce thought that wasn't strong enough, so it's currently at 1/5 hp every 3-5 seconds. Once we get to the testing phase we can decide if this is too much damage (I doubt it'll be too little).

I was thinking like 1/3 hp + 1 damage per 3 sec in the sunlight. SUNLIGHT KILLS VAMPIRES DEADER THAN SHIT.
Dominus is being nice by making it 1/5 every 3 seconds...considering how fast it is possible to move from room to room here, i dont think that's enough damage! Has to be tested though.

For once, and I'm sure not the last time, I absolutely agree with Oce.

Historically the affliction of vampirism was attributed to tuberculosis. It makes you weak, you start losing weight, getting paler, and waking up with blood about your mouth and pillow. Then once you died, your loved ones would come down with the mysterious illness that would turn you into the walking dead, awaking covered in blood. Back then there was a different name for it, they called it consumption.

You can even go back to old grave sights in New England and read about the touch of the vampire, or suffered from the hand of consumption.

I don't think that would be a bad name at all, if there was going to be a change.
