I know this may be dumb, and more work than necessary, but I've always wanted a new race that had a specific ability adjustment. Namely, -dex +con.
-2 Dex
+2 Con
I'd like to see something aquatic, it would both explain the hardiness and the clumsiness. So many races see dex as a dump stat, and there's nothing (other than humans) that will reduce your dex without hurting other important stats like strength or intelligence. Since, no matter what class I am, if I'm taking a hit on dex I'll need either strength Vampires, Rangers, Paladins, Death Knights, ect. or intelligence Mages, Liches, Vampires, Rangers, Paladins, Death Knights, ect. Constitution seems like a good trade, since no matter what class you are it can be helpful and creates different builds since the racial adjustment doesn't hurt the con like it would otherwise.
You could call them Mero or Merfolk or even some kind of Lizard Men.
But, it all depends if people would really find that stat adjustment useful or not, and if people would want to be an aquatic race.

Ugh....too many races as it is! Perhaps in the future when things are better under control. I wouldn't count on stats being a basis for race in the future if I were you guys. We're trying to move away from the general idea of stat-based mordor crap.

There's also no one who's going to build their racial starting area, unless you wanted to. Any new race would need one, and as Oce said, there's a ton of races already.

I think a lot of races is a good thing. I understand there's additional dynamics that have been discussed to make them more impactful on your character that haven't been implemented or finished on yet. For instance, an ability or two for each race, often overlapping with each other for balance and to save time. Like, ogres and half giants doing additional bash damage, minotaurs having a gor attack, dark elves getting a hide/sneak bonus, katarans circling better, and elves ticing mp a tiny bit faster.
And yeah, I'd love to build a starting area. Honestly, I'd love to do one for Minotaurs too.

I like the idea of minor racial bonuses - there's only a few in, bashing without a shield for large races and the track skill for minotaurs and werewolves (formerly only for rangers).
I also coded the mud to accept subraces; you pick Half-Giant, your subraces could be Half-Mountain Giant or Half-Frost Gaint; you pick Dwarf, you subraces could be Hill Dwarf or Duergar. But again, I'm interested in getting starting locations done for existing races before doing anything with subraces.
