Leveling Gold

We got quite a handful of people that are short on gold for leveling. Seems like everyone that reaches 18 or over is facing it.

If the amount of gold required to level was lowered, what do you think is fair? What kind of system/formula do you think would justify the new amount. Please be reasonable with your responses.

Some of the reasons for not leveling higher is because it's simply not worth it. For some classes all it really means is more hp/mp but the skills do not scale up,

agreed, i'm hitting 18 and i realize it will take me way longer to gather the gold than the exp. I think instead of 50% of the totaly exp, which will add up to really fast after level 16+, it should be 50% of the level exp or something

On gold:

Camp screaming skulls with a +2 pole weapon. With a partner if you can't solo it. The point of further game development isn't to make it "easier." While I agree that it should be made more "fun," and power-leveling/power-golding isn't exactly "fun," hopefully the new combat system and other changes will improve on that a lot.

On high levels:

You may think it's not worth it - but it is. Even though your HP/MP increases at the same rate, when you're higher level than a big ass dragon/perm/etc, chances are that his tail-slap, bash, bite, trample, circle, and even hit miss you. Your chance to hit, dodge, circle, bash, smother, holyword, turn, etc etc will improve greatly. And those by themselves make you powerful. Why might 4 level 22 characters fail to kill the cloud dragon, while a level 30 character might manage to solo it?

Well, for one, a level 30 character will have a lot easier time collecting powerful items, such as heal wands. But heal wands won't help you if you've been tail-slapped and can't cast. It's primarily the ability to avoid devastating and stunning attacks that allows you to kill big (or at least survive long enough to hazy and try again).

We are not further socializing RoH to make it easier for the masses. That has already been done enough with lowering death xp loss costs, and adding auto-relevel a long time ago. The amount of gold to level is fine just how it is.

I'll do whatever it takes to get a higher player base without marginalizing the mud. People have complained about gold costs being too high so I asked for a discussion to take place on the forum to take place after which we would consider all input.

Leveling gold MIGHT be adjusted if we find it warranted and find a good idea on a fair way to do it, so please continue discussion as to whether we should or not adjust it.

i frankly dun care too much.. yea it's costly, but what's the fun if everyone was lvl 30? I wouldn't have a perm run anymore if everyone was. Besides, it's quite rewarding to be this high, look at all the nice weapons and armor i can get.

Personally I think that levelling items and/or level perms should extend all the way to level 30. Also, items for level 10+ should be flagged lore/nodrop so that you don't have people selling drax horns or will'o'wisp dust for mega bucks. They might already be flagged this way, but if they're not, they should be.

I know Delta mentioned there being rewards for high levels, and I think this is more of the key than adjusting leveling gold. The new combat system is one step towards offering more incentives for people to level up besides just more hp/mp.

With skills code in, it's also pretty easy to add new skills or higher returns for higher levels of skills.
