I found this website: http://www.textmarks.com/

Essentially, you can text message their phone number, it makes a request to this website and sends the results as a text message to you.

Thus, if you send realms who to 41411, TextMarks loads http://www.rohonline.net/sms.php?data=who and sends that to your phone.

It looks like it's free all-around, but may contain ads, and it records the phone number you used. I think only I can see it. You can check out the directory page: http://www.textmarks.com/REALMS

Post ideas about what other things I could set up for the mud!

You can now text online players. Currently, there's no way to reply - I don't know of any websites that will let you send messages to phones, and no identifying information about your phone is sent to the mud (so we wouldn't know where to send the reply to), but I'll look into it.

Just text "realms send delta bananas" to 41411. You can also type clear sms if you don't want these messages.

You can send messages from any mail service server to a phone. You just need to know the phone service provider and do a hostname lookup. The text is just sent to <phone>@<hostname>.com

There are lots of websites with this service - I was recently offered a contract to build one. I turned it down as I thought it was a semi-"seedy" business deal.
